It may just be genetics. I used to babysit this little guy who was born with bright orange hair. No one in his immediate family had this hair colour. By the time he was 1 it was almost white. I agree with Neelam. However, if you'd prefer to do it at home, Use a brown dye that says "ash." (light ash brown, med ash brown, etc). Ash tones are very effective in toning down the red.

Stay away from the reddish browns or golden browns because they will bring back the red tone.

Hmmm, light green with maybe a dash of brown at the crease of where you eye ends and brow begins with a white color uptop, but don't overdo the white!

A lighter blue is also pretty, but done with gray at the crease...

Whether hair takes dye or not doesn't depend on the natural color really, as long as the dye is darker than the current color. It just depends on the genetics of your hair. It also depends on the quality and brand of the dye. My hair is naturally light brown, and even after its bleached to a very light blonde, it doesn't take to unnatural colors very well (pink, purple, ect)

I say just try it. Use a semi-permanent first to see if it'll work.

The best brand of dye you can find in a regular drug store is loreal.

Don't get rid of your red hair! I used to dye my hair red because I love the different colors it can be. Still, I missed my blonde.

I would say if you absolutely still want to, buy 2 kits of 40 volume bleach. The days before you bleach it, each time you shower leave on a deep-conditioning treatment to make sure your hair is the healthiest possible before bleaching. Bleach your hair once, this will make it extremely orange and nasty haha. Wait at least a day depending on your current hair condition (if it's brittle and dry, wait more than a day). Then, bleach it again. If it's still yellow/orangeish, use a toner to get rid of the brass. Then, use an ASH BLONDE kit. If you use a golden blonde kit, it will only enhance the red tones and give it that brassy/orange look. Usually most hair dyes carry a medium, dark and light ash blonde. Finally, continue to deep condition your hair a week after you dye it.

I used Ultra Blue bleach by L'oreal twice on my hair, then I went over it with Medium Ash Blonde by Clairol Nice %26amp; Easy.

If you haven't had much experience with dying your hair or others' hair, I would recommend having someone who is experienced with hair dye do it. That way, they know to cover all the spots. Or, if you're still unsure I recommend getting your hair done at a salon.
