I once used bleach to lighten my dark hair, then I dyed it red, and it came out VERY bright. I used Cherry Bark and it toned down in a few shampoos. It is a professional product so call salons to see if they carry Artec You could also try a semi-permanant hair color....
Are there any shampoo's that can darken red hair? Fror red hair try beetroot with warm water mix until disolved and rinse with the infusion before shampooing. For red to orange hair try Carrot juice in the same way and if your hair is more brown than red then try Rosemary and hot water, rinse with this before and after(after-the rosemary only unless you want to smell like carrots or beetroots) shampooing and condioning as normal.
These things may sound a bit weird and you wouldn't admit them to you're friends unless you were proud of the results: try each one of them and If they don't work then they were cheap(hopefully) and easily gotten rid off. It isn't drastic so it will gradually darken your hair and contains no chemicals. Body Shop would be a good place to buy some and the shop assistant can give you some advice.
