Removing Red from My Hair.?

I put a med. brown hair rinse on my hair and it turned med. auburn. I wanted to know what would be the best way to get the red out before I recolor my hair. My stylist said use baking soda.

try using some rinse or haircolor with ash or greennish shades it will make the redish brown , wont turn green. but if you dont like the color just change it fast..

How sad that you can't be happy with how you were born.

That is really tough. I was told by the girls at REGIS that red is the worst color to ever try to deal with getting rid of. If the baking soda doesn't work, you might have to bleach it.

I recommend you wait, wash your hair at least twice a day for a week... that way your hair won't fry from being dyed too much. I wouldnt use at home dyies because they all leave a red tent to your hair.. professionally is the best way to go.. It lasts longer also!!

Use a hair color with Ash in it. Like - Medium Ash Brown. Ash, takes red out. Good luck.

i did that a couple of times and i had to dye it black. i liked black though it goes with my skin tone. you should definitely not bleach it it will ruin the color even more trust me I've been dyeing my hair since i was 14. You should wash it with dish-washing soap that has lemon concentrate on it if it has not been over a day since you dyed it. If it has been longer you should try to dye a shade darker than your natural shade in non permanent hair dye( natural instincts is the best). Good luck and I hope you get the color you want !

Use baking soda once a week if your hair is normal or oily or once every two weeks if your hair is dry. Use Thermasilk Clarifying shampoo and conditioner. They help to lift off the color. good luck and hope you do end up with the color that you wanted!!

Baking soda is okay but it is more like a clarifing shampoo. Dawn dishwashing soap is more likely to strip some of the color. Remember, red is the hardest color to remove from your hair. When you are ready to recolor you need to use a color that has an "ash" base to it. No warm color. I know it sounds funny but to cancel out the red in your hair you need to put green back into it ie. "ash". Good luck.

I have the same problem because as you, my hair contains a lot of red undertone. Do not try to kill the red. In fact, play with it and try to bring it out. Use hair colors that have red in it.

I dyed my hair red about 6 months ago. I would either go with baking soda for permenate or non permenate dye, waiting for non permenate, depending on how long the color is supposed to stay it could come out in anywhere along the lines of 8 washes to 3 months. If you did get permenate dye, I suggest wahing it when you get up in the morning and before you go to bed. It will fade a lot in a couple of months. But if you want it to fade, use shampoo not made for dyed hair, Such as Dove 2-in-1 Weightless Moustierizers.
