What other countries you find plenty of red hair people, besides Ireland?

The largest numbers of red heads in Europe are probably to be found in countries like England, Norway, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, maybe Poland and Northern Italy, all countries with large populations of Germanic (or Teutonic) origin.

Contrary to popular belief, most Irish people are not red haired. A survey taken by the Irish government a few decades ago found that only 6% of the Irish population was red-haired.

Since most of the ancient Celts were eventually wiped out and descriptions of them by the Greeks and Romans are a bit sparse, it is not certain how red-haired they really were. However, there is a rare rust-red pigmented hair color in Europe that seems to be found only in Ireland, Scotland and Brittany (Northwestern France) and around Ankara in Turkey. Perhaps a legacy of the Galatians.

A similar myth is that most Scandinavians are blonds. Yet, I read once that even in Sweden, the country with the largest number of blonds in Europe, it's only 18% of the population.

Iceland. The Vikings took a lot of Celtic dollies there in the 9th and 10th centuries, and today, redheads are as common as blondes there.
